R.J. Blasting, founded by Eric Jackson, started operation in 1987 and has enjoyed
a rapid growth and success during its 20 years involvement
within the Drilling & Blasting industry.
The company is involved with quarries, civil contracts
and is heavily involved in Open Cast Coal site work.
R.J. Blasting is at the forefront in the field of Pump
Truck Explosives Technology, operating 3 dedicated pump
trucks and work in conjunction with leading suppliers
in the field.

In December 2006, Andy Canavan was joined by co-director Ian MacDonald
and took over the reigns of R.J. Blasting from founding member
Eric Jackson.
Eric’s knowledge and experience is still there to be called
on, as a consultant as and when required.
In addition, new management teams for Scotland and England are
now in place, enhancing the company’s ability to provide
a safe, swift and professional service for new and existing clients.

Andrew
M Canavan
Managing Director
Andy joined R.J. Blasting 5 years ago as Operations Director.
With 30 years experience in the drilling and blasting industry,
he possesses sound knowledge of all aspects of plant management
together with extensive practical experience in a wide range
of blasting situations.

Ian
MacDonald
Director
Ian is a Strathclyde University graduate with a Bsc. in Mining
Engineering. He has experience at senior management level in
a range of disciplines during his 30 year career in the Extractive
Industry, including a period as General Manager at one of the
world’s largest quarrying operatives.
Ian say’s that “he looks forward to building
the business and the unique prospects that the growing company
offers, by ensuring our staff are provided with the necessary
resources, training and backup.”
Ian adds “there is a high level of sophistication
required within the industry today and we are well equipped
to deliver.”
Colin
Robb
Area Manager - Scotland
Colin joined the firm in 2005 as Scottish Area Manager based
at Garleffan, New Cumnock.
He brought with him 20 years of experience in varying types
of drilling and blasting from quarry and civil engineering to
opencast mining, having spent the previous number of years with
major contractors.
Colin is responsible for the day to day running of the drilling
and blasting operations at our customer’s sites in Scotland
and co-ordinates the maintenance of the drilling and auxiliary
plant fleet.
Ian
Gray
Area Manager – England
Ian joined the company in the summer of 2007 as Area Manager
for England based at Stobswood Opencast Complex.
He brings a wide range of skills from extensive mining and quarrying
experience derived from 18 years working for British Coal in
the Opencast Mining Industry and 10 years as a Quarry Manager
at several locations in the UK for major quarry operators.
In addition to his day to day responsibilities for his area,
Ian provides support for safety and training matters within
the company.
David Graham
Blasting Supervisor
David is Blasting Supervisor and in fact started with RJ Blasting
the year the Company was founded (1987). David has gained Shotfiring
& Explosives supervisor certificates and is the Team Leader
of the Shotfiring Body.
He has supervised most of RJ Blasting's major operations and
the vast experience learned on these contracts has been invaluable
to the Company’s Operations.
Grace
Welsh
Office Manager
Grace joined the company 2 years ago and has brought high professional
standards to the administration functions.
Grace is most often the first point of contact people have with
the company and deals with enquiries in a pleasant and competent
manner.
